Two USAF F-4C Phantom IIs of the 8th Tactical Fighter Wing cruise above the clouds during the Vietnam War, their distinctive camouflage and “FG” tail codes identifying them with the wing that became synonymous with some of the most intense air combat of the conflict. The lead aircraft, FG 829, was associated with legendary fighter commander Robin Olds, who flew the Phantom to two MiG-17 victories during the famous air battle of 20 May 1967.

Anthony Saunders captures the powerful lines of the Phantom against a dramatic evening sky, highlighting the sheer presence of one of the most important combat aircraft of its generation.

It also represents an excellent entry point into collecting Anthony Saunders’ original artwork, offering the opportunity to own an original work by the artist in a more compact and accessible format than his larger paintings.
