Operation Market Garden

Beginning on 17 September 1944, this daring operation was the largest airborne assault of WWII, aimed to capture and secure vital bridges in the Allies’ push towards the Rhine.

C-47 Dakotas of the 439th Troop Carrier Group drop thousands of paratroopers from the 82nd and 101st Airborne Divisions into Holland, a hundred and fifty miles behind enemy lines.

ARNHEM AIRBORNE ASSAULT

Glider-borne infantry from the British 1st Air Landing Brigade successfully secure ‘DZ-X’, the drop zone on Renkum Heath several miles to the west of Arnhem. Overhead, paratroopers from the 1st Parachute Brigade begin their drop from USAAF C-47s.

Published to commemorate the 75th Anniversary, this memorable print has been personally signed by veterans who served with the Glider Pilot Regiment at Arnhem - pictured here with artist Simon Smith for the release in 2009. Find out more HERE!
