FIGHTER PILOT SIGNING EVENT - 14th April

We are delighted to announce that we’ll be joined at the Wendover Gallery by pilots who flew RAF fighter aircraft during WWII.

14 April 2019

Squadron Leader ALLAN SCOTT DFM -  after joining the RAF in March 1941 he was posted to 124 Squadron at Biggin Hill to fly Spitfires. Transferring to 603 Squadron he was shipped aboard HMS Eagle for the defence of Malta, later joining 1435 Squadron on the island, and during the ‘Blitz’ of October 1942 he saw considerable action against Bf109s and Ju88s achieving Ace status. Returning to the UK he was an Instructor before joining 122 Squadron in February 1944 for his second combat tour flying P-51 Mustangs throughout D-Day. He then became a test pilot, finishing the war with 6 victories and 2 probables.

Warrant Officer ERIC CARTER - late 1940 onwards, he flew Hurricanes and Defiants with 615 Sqn in air defence over Northern England before moving to 81 Sqn, again on Hurricanes. In the autumn of 1941 he went with the squadron to Russia as part of Force Benedict to defend the port of Murmansk. Returning to the UK he later joined 456 Sqn flying Spitfires.

And special guest signer:

WAAF GLADYS EVANS - served as a secretary at Langley from September 1939 before being moved to Naphill in 1940.  Although we should never declare the age of a lady, Gladys has achieved the status of centenarian and might decide to leave before lunch.
