When he was a boy, Alan Bean dreamt of flying airplanes - he dreamt of flying higher than the highest cloud. Early on in his career, he qualified to fly jets which helped his dream grow stronger than ever before. This piece depicts Bean standing on the moon with the American flag in his grasp, reaching out to the distant world beyond him. This made him realise that he had now flown higher than the highest cloud on earth. He was also overwhelmed with the fact that he was living much more than his boyhood dream!
