TEST PILOTS’ SIGNING EVENT – 22nd APRIL

For this exciting event at the UK Gallery we’ll be joined by some highly-regarded RAF Test Pilots.

Our special guests include:

Air Vice-Marshal MIKE ADAMS CB AFC - joining the RAF for his national service in 1952, he completed pilot training and flew Canberras with 207, 115 and 32 Sqns both in the UK and abroad, followed by the Flying Instructors Course. In 1963 he went to Test Pilot’s School and then spent three tours of duty at the Aeroplane & Armament Experimental Establishment flying a wide variety of combat aircraft including the Lightning, Draken, T38, T-2 Buckeye, S-3 Viking, P-3 Orion, OV-1 Mohawk and most British jets. Having flown the P1127, Kestrel and Harrier, he was attached to the Harrier development programme for two years from 1967. He was later CO of the Empire Test Pilot’s School and in 1984 was AOC RAF training units in the UK. Mike served in the RAF for 36 years.

Air Vice-Marshal ALAN MERRIMAN CBE AFC* FRAeS - after serving as an instructor on Meteors, Alan joined a Hunter fighter squadron before becoming a Test Pilot on the Hunter, Javelin, Swift, Lightning, Gnat Fighter and Harrier along with carrying out assessments of the US supersonic fighters F-100, F-104, F-105 and F-106, the French rocket powered Mirage 3 and the Swiss Viggen. He later commanded the first Harrier base at RAF Wittering.

Air Vice-Marshal GRAHAM WILLIAMS - served as a Pilot with 54 Sqn on Hunters before spending time as an Instructor on Hunters and Meteors. Graham then transferred to 8 Sqn in Aden, again on Hunters, and joined the A&AEE testing many aircraft including Lightnings, Harriers and Phantoms. He was appointed OC of 3 Sqn at Wildenrath on Harriers and then OC of Brüggen, Germany on Jaguars. Back in the UK he served with Experimental Flying RAE, Farnborough and A&AAE, Boscombe Down on many aircrafts including Buccaneers, Gazelles and Sea Furys.

 

Entry to our Gallery events is FREE but for safety reasons it is important to RESERVE YOUR TICKET IN ADVANCE. Unfortunately, on event days, we can't allow entry to anyone who hasn't reserved a place. Even if you're not 100% sure that you can make it, please book your place in advance and if your plans change, just let us know.
