NORMANDY VETERANS SIGNING EVENT – 18th JUNE

To commemorate the historic events of D-Day, we will be joined at the UK Gallery by veterans who took part in one of the most critical periods of British history – the Allied invasions of occupied Europe.

Craftsman DOUG AUSTIN Ld’H - landing with the 3rd Battalion Scots Guards, 6th Tank Brigade, he fought from Caen through the Villers Bocage and during the ferocious combat at the Falaise Gap, seeing action through to Germany on VE-Day.
 
Signalman FRANK BAUGH  Ld’H - his Landing Craft LCI(L)380, carrying members of the King’s Shropshire Light Infantry as part of Flotilla 253, was credited with being the first Landing Craft to land on Sword Beach at 7.20am on D-Day.

Driver FRED HARRIS Ld’H
 - serving as a Reconnaissance Engineer with 621 Field Squadron, Royal Engineers, he landed on Gold Beach via the Mulberry Harbour and continued clearing a path at the head of column through Normandy all the way to Berlin.

Corporal GORDON NEWTON
Ld’H - a member of the 9th Parachute Battalion, 6th Airborne Division, he landed in the early hours of D-Day by Horsa Glider to attack the Merville Battery. He later fought in ‘The Battle of the Bulge' and Operation Varsity.

STANLEY MARSH  Ld’H - serving with the Royal Navy his ship, HMS Albatross, was part of the second wave off Sword Beach on D-Day +1 and for three months after the Invasion was used as a Depot ship for the troops.


Entry to our Gallery events is FREE but for safety reasons it is important to RESERVE YOUR TICKET IN ADVANCE as unfortunately, on event days, we can't allow entry to anyone who hasn't reserved a place. Even if you're not 100% sure that you can make it, please book your place in advance and if your plans change, just let us know.

VETERAN SYMPOSIUM

We'll be running a Question and Answers session with the veterans which is a rare opportunity to find out details of the D-Day Invasion. Due to numbers we encourage you to send any questions in advance of the event, simply CONTACT US with your suggestions.
