ESCORT FOR THE STRAGGLER

Framed Collectors Piece by Robert Taylor

Escorted by Spitfires of 504 Squadron, battle-damaged Lancaster UL-M2 approaches the friendly coast of England after a gruelling raid over Germany. Between early 1943 and the end of 1944, the legendary bomber completed 140 operational sorties – more than any other Lancaster in RAF Bomber Command during World War II.

Paying tribute to these two legendary aircraft and the men who flew them, Robert’s RARE piece is issued with the matching-numbered companion print WINTER HOMECOMING which depicts a lone Lancaster returning home damaged after a night raid over Germany in early 1944.

SALUTE TO THE BRAVE

Framed with multiple signatures by Anthony Saunders

Luftwaffe Ace Franz Stigler declines to destroy a seemingly defenceless and battered B-17 from the 379th BG as it limps home following a raid on Bremen, 20 December 1943. Having assessed the critical state of the Fortress flown by 2nd Lt Charlie Brown, and glimpsed some of the badly wounded men through gaping holes in the fuselage, Stigler decides to escort the bomber to the North Sea coast on a heading for England. In a final act of chivalry, the German pilot looked across at his American counterpart and raised a gloved hand in salute before swinging his aircraft away.

Stigler never reported the incident. Had he done so he would in all probability have been shot as a traitor yet many years later, through serendipity and good fortune, both men would meet again and become firm friends.

Making this copy even more special, our expert framing team have included EIGHT original signatures in the matting - four highly-regarded Bf109 Luftwaffe Aces and four famous B-17 USAAF Pilots... more info HERE!

CLOUD COMPANIONS

Framed Collectors Piece by Robert Taylor

A Lancaster has been damaged and is left far behind the main force to make its own perilous way home as best it can. Seeing the vulnerability of their friends, a Mosquito crew expose themselves to the same dangers, and throttle back to stay alongside the injured warbird. Dawn has broken, the visibility is unlimited. They have yet to make that Channel crossing and enemy fighters are in the area. The crew of the Lancaster struggle to maintain flying speed and enough height to bring their large four-engined aircraft home. Perhaps tonight they will all drink and laugh in the local pub - perhaps!

Creating a completely unique piece, our framing team have included two fully-authenticated fragments of aircraft within the mount - the first recovered from a Lancaster at the Victory Aircraft Factory, and the second recovered from a Mosquito crash site in Northern France.
