The sound of snarling Allison engines rings through the gorge over the Li River as shark-mouthed P-40s of the legendary American Volunteer Group, the ‘Flying Tigers’, return to their base in Kweilin, China, 1942.

By the middle of May 1942 thousands of Chinese refugees were forced to flee from the advancing forces of Imperial Japan. But help was at hand. A handful of daring pilots from the American Volunteer Group stopped the Japanese cold in their tracks and prevented China’s probable demise.
