THE SINKING OF THE TIRPITZ

When Churchill demanded that the Tirpitz be sunk, it was for a reason; Hitler’s mighty battleship was a terrible threat to the North Atlantic convoys, Britain’s lifeline. It was a difficult challenge for the crews of RAF Bomber Command as the Tirpitz lay in a heavily defended Norwegian Fjord but, on 12 November 1944, crews from 9 & 617 Squadrons finally succeeded in sinking the mighty battleship.
