Sainte Mère Église was the first town in Normandy to be liberated following the D-Day invasion. After a tough fight, the Stars and Stripes flag was raised over the town in the early hours of the morning by Airborne Paratroopers who had parachuted into the town earlier that night.

The superb detail in Richard’s drawing shows the iconic church at the centre of this historic town and US forces moving in.
