FIRST FLAG - GICLÉE CANVAS
by Alan Bean
On July 20th 1969, the whole world turned on their television’s to watch as Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin unfurled the first flag on the Moon. It was a moment that will live in history forever, and in the collective memories of billions of humans 240,000 miles away on planet Earth.
In this piece the first flag is hanging just like a curtain would from a small extendable metal pole which Neil rotated and locked into place on top of the flagstaff. The flag itself had been stored, folded up accordion-style, and attached to the flagstaff and curtain rod, just prior to launch. He and Buzz then attempted to extend the rod and flag to its full length but without complete success. The creases in the shortened flag are still visible in Bean’s painting.
This piece is a Limited Edition Giclee which is very different from other Giclees as this one has the foot prints of Alan's boots he wore on his missions which gives a Three Dimensional feel to this piece! This piece has been Signed and numbered by Alan himself!
