Normandy Veterans' Signing Event - 23rd January

We’re delighted to be joined at the Wendover Gallery by veterans who served during the Normandy Campaign in WWII, to meet enthusiasts and sign items for collectors.

Our special guests include:

Private FRED MILLER  - called up in 1941, Fred served in the Middle East for 3 years as a driver for the Royal Army Service Corps.  Fred landed on Juno Beach in the third wave on D-day before the onward journey through France, Belgium and Holland taking out rocket launchers.

Able Seaman BILL BENNETT - with the Royal Navy he was involved first at Gold Beach, then Operation Pluto to construct undersea oil pipelines, and finally he helped to bring in supplies for Allied troops.

Sapper DON SHEPPARD - landed on Juno Beach with the 51st Highland Division behind the Canadian Force. He soon advanced towards Pegasus Bridge and saw action throughout Normandy, later taking part in Operation Market Garden.

Private VICTOR MACKENZIE  Ld’H - joining the Home Guard aged 16 in 1940, Vic went on to join the King’s Royal Rifle Corps.  Responding to a call for drivers for the Royal Army Service Corps and following extensive training, he landed on Gold Beach in the days after D-Day driving with the Close Support Group, 7th Armoured Division, landing essential supplies and ammunition.
