On 14 October 1943 high over north-east Poland, Hauptmann Walter ‘Nowi’ Nowotny, Gruppenkommandeur I./JG54 claims his 250th victory, a Russian Curtiss P-40, to become the Luftwaffe’s top-scoring Ace at that time.

Walter ‘Nowi’ Nowotny occupies a legendary place in Luftwaffe history! Flying with JG 54 Grünherz on the Eastern Front, he rose rapidly through the ranks to become the highest-scoring fighter pilot of his time. On 14 October 1943, Nowotny achieved his 250th aerial victory - the first pilot in history to reach such a total - a milestone that prompted personal call from Hitler.

That historic moment is captured by Richard Taylor in a dramatic depiction of Nowotny’s encounter with a Soviet Curtiss P-40. Not only was the P-40 number 250 but the culmination of four victories in just twenty minutes! Faithfully reproduced as a high quality giclée fine art print on archival paper, each copy hand-numbered and personally signed by Richard Taylor. Alongside the print are original autographs from nine JG 54 fighter pilots, all confirmed aces, including the exceptionally rare signature of Walter Nowotny.

Between them, these pilots accounted for over 1,000 aerial victories, making this a highly significant and scarce collector’s piece!
