Original Pencil Drawing Portfolio by Robert Taylor

A Tribute to Colonel BOB MORGAN and the famous MEMPHIS BELLE...

20 October 2020

The ‘Belle’ was the first B-17 in the 91st Bomb Group to complete 25 missions. During that time her Captain, Bob Morgan, never lost a single crew member and his gunners were credited with destroying eight enemy fighters, the last of which was claimed on 17 May 1943 during a mission to bomb enemy U-boat pens at Lorient, France.

The centrepiece of this stunning portfolio is a stunning new drawing entitled ‘THE RISING MIST’.

As the March sunlight burns off the early morning mist at Bassingbourne, James Verinis, co-pilot of the ‘Memphis Belle’, awaits the signal to start engines as the crew prepare for another perilous mission.

Alongside is a second, completely separate work, an insightful head and shoulders portrait of the Captain of the Belle, Bob Morgan.

Both drawings have been mounted to full conservation standards in a single composition to include the rare and fully-authenticated original autograph of the man himself, Colonel BOB MORGAN.

We're rarely able to offer Robert's original work so we're sure it won't be around for long!
