RAF BOMBER COMMAND SIGNING EVENT - 26th JUNE
As a tribute to the brave young men who served with RAF Bomber Command during WWII, we are delighted to announce that we’ll be joined at the UK Gallery by some fascinating pilots and aircrew who served in combat during WWII.
Our guests include:
Warrant Officer CECIL ‘Chick’ CHANDLER - joining the RAF in 1942 he served as a Flight Engineer with 15 Sqn on Stirlings and Lancasters before transferring to 622Sqn on Lancasters. He completed a total of 28 Ops including raids on Nuremberg and on D-Day.
Flight Lieutenant DENIS EVANS MBE - qualifying as a Pilot he flew Lancasters with 170 Sqn from RAF Hemswell, completing 19 Ops over Northern Europe, taking part in Operation Manna, and later the Berlin Airlift, for which his contribution was awarded an MBE.
Flying Officer TOM SAYER DFM - he flew Whitleys with 10 OTU from St Eval and then Halifaxes with 102 Sqn from Pocklington, completing 35 Ops. He then became an instructor at 81 OTU training bomber crews how to tow Gliders in preparation for D-Day.
Warrant Officer ROY BRIGGS - serving as a Wireless Operator on Lancasters with 576 Sqn at RAF Fiskerton, he completed 10 Ops including raids Plauen and Bremen before taking part in Operation Manna. As the war in Europe ended he transferred to 156 Pathfinder Sqn.
