AN OUTSTANDING EVENT WITH ARTIST RICHARD TAYLOR - 4th August

Join us at the Wendover Gallery to meet one of the industry’s most exciting artists!

4 August 2019

We’re delighted to announce that leading aviation artist Richard Taylor will be joining us at the UK Gallery in Wendover:

Aviation Artist RICHARD TAYLOR – from an early age, Richard had shown an exceptional ability to draw. Not surprising perhaps, having been brought up in a family where fine art drawing, painting, print publishing, gallery receptions and art exhibitions pervaded daily life, but in his case a very rare talent was obvious to all who saw his work. A future somewhere in the world of art seemed undoubted – his father is Robert Taylor, regarded as the finest aviation and maritime artist of his generation. However, since his first published work in 2006 Richard has been carving out his own niche in the world of aviation and military art and is seen as one of the industry’s most exciting artists.

We’ll have a large selection of Richard’s artwork on display – original oil on canvas, pencil drawings, Remarques and Limited Edition prints.

We’ll also be hosting some amazing WWII veterans to sign items for collectors – our special guests include:

Squadron Leader ALLAN SCOTT DFM - after joining the RAF in March 1941 he was posted to 124 Sqn at Biggin Hill to fly Spitfires. Transferring to 603 Sqn he was shipped aboard HMS Eagle for the defence of Malta, later joining 1435 Sqn on the island, and during the ‘Blitz’ of October 1942, he saw considerable action against Bf109s and Ju88s achieving Ace status. Returning to the UK he was an Instructor before joining 122 Sqn in February 1944 for his second combat tour flying P-51 Mustangs throughout D-Day. He then became a test pilot, finishing the war with 6 victories and 2 probables.

Flight Lieutenant RUSSELL ‘RUSTY’ WAUGHMAN DFC AFC Ld’H  - volunteering for the RAF in 1941, Rusty qualified as a Pilot and was posted to 101 (Special Duties) Sqn based at RAF Ludford Magna in Lincolnshire. He completed a full tour of 30 Operations on Lancasters including the Nuremberg raid on 30 March 1944 and survived several major incidents including a mid-air collision and, on the night of 3/4 May 1944, having his Lancaster flipped upside down by an explosion whilst over the target at Mailly-le-Camp in France.

Flight Lieutenant BOB LEEDHAM - originally a Pilot on Beauforts with 86 Sqn, Bob then joined 90 Sqn equipped with Stirlings and completed a full tour of Operations. Having finished this first tour, he was later attached to 57 Sqn on Lancasters as a revision instructor brought in to help reduce the number of losses of new and inexperienced crews. Post-war with BOAC he flew the first Comet 4 transatlantic flight from New York to London.
