6 June 2020

This year will see some very different D-Day commemorations, but it makes us very proud to have a Gallery in such a historic location.

We're delighted to offer these memorable editions featuring the town of our second home...

SAINTE-MÈRE-ÉGLISE

by Simon Smith

In the early hours of 6 June 1944, Troops of the US 82nd Airborne, 505th PIR land right in the heart of Sainte-Mère-Église - engaging in a ferocious firefight with the German defenders. Before the break of dawn, Ste-Mère-Église would become the first town in Normandy to be liberated by the Allies on D-Day.

This dramatic piece is personally autographed by two 82nd Airborne veterans who took part in the capture of the town, guaranteeing a lasting link to this famous episode in history:

  • Capt DEAN McCANDLESS - 1st Battalion
  • SSgt LEO DUMOUCHELLE - 307th Airborne Engineer Battalion

Mounted and framed to full conservation standards to include an 82nd Airborne pin.

LIBERATION - SAINTE-MÈRE-ÉGLISE

by Richard Taylor

Reinforced by tanks from nearby Utah Beach and P-47 Thunderbolts overhead, Paratroopers of the 82nd Airborne Division patrol the centre of Ste-Mère-Église. After two days of intense fighting following their pre-dawn drop on D-Day, the town is finally liberated.

It's easy to see why Richard's piece continues to prove extremely popular as  a lasting tribute to the brave young men who fought to liberate the town on D-Day.

To make it even more special, this Framed Collector's Piece has been personally signed and authenticated by three famous veterans who served with the US 82nd Airborne Division as the Allies fought to liberate Europe:

  • Lt Col JAMES 'MAGGIE' MEGELLAS - Commanded 'H' Company, 504th PIR and is officially recognised as ‘the most-decorated officer in the history of the US 82nd Airborne Division’.
  • SGT BOB BEARDEN - Served with 'H' Company, 507th PIR
  • SGT MILTON SCHLESENER - Platoon Sergeant of 'D' Company, 505th PIR

Framed to full conservation standards to include an 82nd Airborne Patch.
