Hurricanes of 43 Squadron scramble from an airfield in southern England during the height of the Battle of Britain, 1940. The RAF's first 300mph fighter, the Hurricane proved itself a formidable aerial gun platform, its pilots accounting for four-fifth of all the air victories achieved by the R.A.F. during the Battle of Britain.
