Mosquitoes of 487 Squadron (New Zealand), 464 Squadron (Australian) and 21 Squadron took off from RAF Hunsdon. Target – the prison at Amiens, France. Having approached the prison at a height of just 10 feet, Pilot Officer Maxwell Sparks and Navigator Arthur Dunlop dropped their bombs before climbing and barely clearing the prison rooftop.

With a more direct angle, Philip West's piece showcases how low the aircraft were whilst bombing the Amiens prison, drawing more attention to the carnage caused by the bombs.

Gracing the bottom of the print is a fantastic pencil remarque and the original autographs of the two men depicted PLUS one of the Typhoon pilots flying as escort:

  • Pilot Officer MAXWELL SPARKES
  • Pilot Officer ARTHUR DUNLOP
  • Flight Sergeant FRANK WHEELER
