BOMBER COMMAND SIGNING EVENT AT THE LINCOLNSHIRE AVIATION HERITAGE CENTRE - 1st OCTOBER

We’ll be exhibiting some of our finest pieces at this very special event. To honour all those who served with RAF Bomber Command, we will be joined by some outstanding WWII veterans.

1 October 2016

Our special guests include:

Squadron Leader GEORGE ‘JOHNNY’ JOHNSON DFM - previously with 97 Sqn, he joined 617 Sqn as Bomb Aimer on Lancaster AJ-T ‘Tommy’ which attacked the Sorpe Dam as part of the famous Dambusters Raid, scoring a direct hit. It is of great historical significance that 'Johnny' is now the last surviving British Dambuster to take part in the raids.

Flight Sergeant LEN MANNING Ld’H - served from RAF East Kirkby as a Rear Gunner on Lancasters with 57 Sqn. On his 3rd operation on the night of 18/19th July 1944 his aircraft was shot down and after baling out Len was hidden by French civilians before returning to Britain injured.

Warrant Officer HARRY IRONS DFC - joining the RAF in 1940 at the age of just 16, he flew as a Rear Gunner on Lancasters with 9 Sqn, taking part in many special missions including the raids against the Tirpitz. He was then posted to 158 Sqn and finished the war having completed a total of 75 Ops’.
