WWII FIGHTER PILOT SIGNING EVENT – 4th DECEMBER

We'll be joined for this exciting event at the Wendover Gallery by WWII Fighter Pilots and Ground Crew.

Our special guests include:

Flight Lieutenant ALAN DAVIS - joining the RAF in 1943 he trained in America before returning to the UK to fly Spitfire Mk.XIVs with an OTU. He then flew Spitfire Mk.IXs with 225 Tactical Reconnaissance Sqn with whom he stayed until the end of the war.

Flight Lieutenant KURT TAUSSIG - aged 15, he was sent by his parents from Czechoslovakia to England in 1939 to escape the Nazi persecution of the Jews. At 18 he joined the RAF and was posted to 225 Sqn flying Hurricanes and Spitfires on Tactical and Artillery Reconnaissance duties.

Flight Lieutenant RODNEY SCRASE DFC - flew Spitfires with 72 Sqn over North Africa, Sicily and Italy scoring 4 victories and 3 damaged. Returning to Britain he finished the war with 1 Sqn at RAF Manston, flying Spitfires on bomber escort duties over Europe.

Squadron Leader EDWARD ‘TWIGS’ TREES - flew P-40 Kittyhawks and P-51 Mustangs with 112 (Shark) Sqn completing more than 100 missions over Yugoslavia, Italy and Austria. After the war he flew Vampires and Sabre Jets as Squadron Commander of 71 (Eagle) Sqn.

Chief Technician JOE RODDIS - a crew chief fitter in the RAF from 1939 to 1945 he worked on Spitfires. During the Battle of Britain he was Bob Doe’s fitter and was also involved in the Normandy campaign working on numerous forward bases during 1944 and 45.
