RAF FIGHTER PILOT SIGNING EVENT - 18th SEPTEMBER

We are delighted to announce that we’ll be joined at the Wendover Gallery by pilots who flew RAF fighter aircraft during WWII.

Our special guests include:

Warrant Officer EDMUND CREEGAN - joining the RAF in 1941 and completing his training in both the US and Canada, Edmund flew Spitfires with 243 Sqn, 322 Wing in North Africa. Ground-strafing in Italy, he was shot down in December 1944 and held in Munich as a taken PoW.

Flight Lieutenant ALAN DAVIS - joining the RAF in 1943 he trained in America before returning to the UK to fly Spitfire Mk XIVs with an OTU. He then flew Spitfire Mk IXs with 225 Tactical Reconnaissance Sqn with whom he stayed until the end of the war.

Flight Lieutenant KURT TAUSSIG - aged 15, he was sent by his parents from Czechoslovakia to England in 1939 to escape the Nazi persecution of the Jews. At 18 he joined the RAF and was posted to 225 Sqn flying Hurricanes and Spitfires on Tactical and Artillery Reconnaissance duties.

Chief Fitter JOE RODDIS - a crew chief fitter in the RAF from 1939 to 1945 he worked on Spitfires. During the Battle of Britain he was Bob Doe’s fitter and was also involved in the Normandy campaign working on numerous forward bases during 1944 and 45.

ATA First Officer MOLLY ROSE - originally worked as an aircraft mechanic before joining the ATA in 1942. She went on to fly over 40 types of single and twin engine aircraft including Spitfires and Hurricanes.

ATA Third Officer JOY LOFTHOUSE - had never even driven a car when she joined the ATA in 1943 but went on to fly18 different types of aircraft including Spitfires and Hurricanes.
