High over the Italian Alps en route to attack an important rail bridge in the Brenner Pass, B-25 Mitchells from the 321st Bomb Group run into a group of enemy Bf109s from 1 Gruppo Caccia, one of the last Italian units still fighting for Mussolini and the Germans. Top Ace Major Adriano Visconti leads the enemy charge. His attack, however, is short-lived as he takes hits from the P-47D of 2nd Lt Charles Eddy of the 350th Fighter Group, forcing him to bale out over the snow-clad mountains, 14 March 1945.
